Can you name at least one film that was set up for a sequel, but the sequel never came? There have been so many films over the years that seemed primed for a follow-up, but it never happened. Here is a list of online cinephiles’ choices for films that deserve a sequel.
1. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

The frumpy ending of the 2015 remake was inelegant and total sequel bait, but somehow, we didn’t get one. Many agreed had it not been for Armie Hammer and his weird personal issues, there would have most definitely been a sequel.
2. Alita: Battle Angel (2019)

One declared how sad they were that Alita: Battle Angel never received a sequel. But, sadly, it was a blast to watch and got caught up in a culture war at the time, so many believe this flick was primed for a follow-up.
3. Spaceballs (1987)

Some people swore that Spaceballs was the best movie they had ever seen, “and you can’t change my mind.” This Star Wars space opera sci-fi parody pits a heroic hired gun against a warlord from a dying planet in desperate need of natural resources. Keep in mind this feature is a parody.
4. The Nice Guys (2016)

A private eye and a hired enforcer team up in an unlikely pair after a mysterious disappearance bring them together. But, unfortunately, everyone else who involves themselves in the investigation somehow ends up pushing up daisies.
5. John Carter (2012)

Motion Pictures.
There is no question about it Disney completely dropped the ball with John Carter. They totally “mismanaged what were a truly good movie and a great setup for a series.”
6. Golden Compass (2007)

A girl who lives in a parallel universe joins a group of seafarers on a trip to rescue a set of kidnapped children. This fantasy adventure picture stars Dakota Blue Richards, Nicole Kidman, Sam Elliot, Daniel Craig, and Ian McKellen. Golden Compass was sourced from the first installment of a great book trilogy, but somewhere in the mix, a sequel got lost.
7. The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

The Adventures of Tintin is a CGI action-adventure film following the story of the comic book series of the same name. It is about a group of people searching for the ship Unicorn and its treasure. One of the individuals on this escapade is a descendant of the captain of the Unicorn. But they face dangers when pursued by the ancestor or the original captain’s nemesis.
8. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai stars Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, and Christopher Lloyd. The feature had supporting role appearances by Clancy Brown, Vincent Schiavelli, Dan Hedaya, Jonathan Banks, and John Ashton. With a cast chock full of stars like this, why wouldn’t the powers that be capitalize on a sequel?
9. Dredd (2012)

Based on a weekly British science fiction-oriented comic strip, Judge Dredd is a man of the law bestowed with the powers of judge, jury, and executioner! Trapped in a 200-storey highrise in dystopic Mega City One, Judge Dredd and his apprentice Judge Anderson must fight their way out and restore order to their court.
10. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

The film’s plot revolves around a character derived from three novels from author Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey–Maturin series. With the understanding that there were 20 novels that detail the span of Captain Jack Aubrey’s career, it’s got cinephiles asking, where’s the sequel?
11. Jumper (2008)

Many noted Jumper to be one of their favorite films, and they expressed their disappointment upon rewatching because they knew there would not be a sequel. However, there is a great mind out there who has the ability to rework the current material to make it into a worthy sequel because there is plenty of source material to go on.
12. The Covenant (2009)

This supernatural horror film features Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Laura Ramsey, Taylor Kitsch, Jessica Lucas, and Chace Crawford. A final movie enthusiast indicated, “I’ve never seen a movie set up so well for a sequel that never happened.” It would have been great if the writers came out with another film to explore more of the background of the families/ powers.
