Are there any characters on TV shows that you can not stand? You’re not alone. After critics met in an online entertainment forum to discuss examples of said characters, here are their top-voted choices.
1. Joffrey Baratheon
Jack Gleeson is the loveable bloke who portrayed one of the most hated characters in the world at the time. His role as Joffrey Baratheon in the HBO series Game of Thrones afforded him the opportunity to live his best life.
But many viewers noted, “I feel like Joffrey was just kind of unpredictable and was played so well as just kinda unhinged. You knew you’d hate whatever it was he was going to do, but it could literally be anything!”
2. Professor Umbridge
As a fan of the Harry Potter series, I am completely onboard with the dislike for Professor Umbridge. She put up this front of being this nice and polite person, all the while committing horrible acts and being a horrible human being.
Other viewers stated, “Came here to say that. I remember reading the Order of the Phoenix for the first time, and I literally felt Harry’s anger the moment she canceled Quidditch. That made me furious.”
3. Ted Mosby
On the first watch-through, many would consider Ted Mosby as the good guy who can’t seem to catch a break and is strangely best friends with a womanizing monster.
With a closer look, you will notice that Mosby is a guy with a victim complex while putting off good guy energy. One critic exclaimed, “Everyone hates Ted and loves Barney, which I find odd because Barney treats women like literal objects.”
4. Carrie Bradshaw
“I did a rewatch, and I couldn’t believe how much I hated her. So selfish and mean. Every single time someone else has a problem, she dismisses it with an ‘Oh, you’ll be okay!’ And then talks about herself.” Another individual expresses, “Despite being a sex/relationship columnist, she was really very prudish and openly disgusted by a bisexual man. Pure narcissist!”
5. Piper Chapman
Consensus says that no one watched Orange is the New Black for Piper, only the other characters on the show. Several TV fans declared, “I fully agree. It got to the point where her character annoyed me enough that it detracted from the show. I would 100% have enjoyed the show focusing on the other characters and her just being transferred or released and not part of it.”
6. Mrs. Carmody
The Mist is a Stephen King novella that graduated to a movie and made a lateral move to TV as well. One thing is for sure, in all three mediums, Mrs. Carmody was unlikable in them all. What’s worse is “The thing is that her solution wasn’t much less rational than others; she just had blind faith in what she believed in and against all odds turned out to be right… possibly.”
7. Rory Gilmore
For such a smart person Rory Gilmore sure made a lot of stupid mistakes. Some even stated they facepalmed so many times that their noses began to hurt. Someone denoted, “She was a mix of privileged rich kid and small-town-my-mom-is-a-single-mom kid. One character hit the nail on the head when he laid into her about the article she wrote on trust fund kids.”
8. Lori Grimes
Another TV fanatic jumped at the chance to name Lori Grimes. The fanatic confirms, “Lori Grimes from The Walking Dead. I just cannot stand her. She is the reason I cannot be bothered to finish the show, and it’s a shame because I really like it and all the characters, but man, I cannot stand that woman.”
9. Steve Urkel
“This is very old school, but back in the day, Steve Urkel from family matters.” One fan recalls, “It was a polarising character. You either loved him or absolutely hated him!” To the point where some avid viewers went back for a rewatch of the show and came out the other end hating the once beloved character who is played by Jaleel White.
10. Ross Geller
A Friends lover lamented, “This is the correct answer. He is everything a man should not be. A jerk. A Whiney loser. Can’t laugh at himself. Very angry and passive-aggressive. He has no friends other than his sister’s friends. Ultra cringy at all times. He is the guy who corrects you over the difference between a rock and a mineral. He is weak and has no spine. .. also a cheater. He treats his girls despicably. Total freak.”
11. Sheldon Cooper
Sheldon probably rounds my list of the most annoying human beings all around. So I did not disagree when a forum member mentioned, “He’s definitely the kind of person who would probably get punched in the face with the way that he talks to people so condescendingly.”
