Are you looking for some raw entertainment and politically incorrect humor? Then we’ve got you covered. After someone polled an internet community for the best of the best, these are the comedians nominated for being the most unapologetically blatant. Do you agree?
1. Tom Segura
I am not the biggest fan of this next comedian simply because I haven’t been exposed enough to his material. But one go-hard fan details, “Tom Segura nonchalantly talking about how he got thousands of death threats from the state of Louisiana will never get old.”
2. Norm Macdonald
“He once did the jokes of all of the comics going up after him just to mess with them,” one comedy fan recalls. “He was also infamous for taking old street jokes and using them on Late Night as if he invented the stories to mess with the audience.”
3. Gilbert Gottfried
Another comedy lover replies, “Howard Stern once commented that it seemed like Gilbert’s goal was to totally alienate the audience. The meta-joke to Gilbert was there was an audience expecting to laugh but then not laughing at all.
Gilbert was often described as a comedian’s comedian because other comics find it funny when somebody else bombs, and the funny part with Gilbert is that he intentionally bombed just to see the audience’s reaction.”
4. Bill Burr
Bill is absolutely the man, and I am a great fan of his work. He makes me laugh every time he’s on-screen, almost like it is out of my control. Another Burr fan shared, “It’s not that he wants to offend you or tries to. He just says what he says and doesn’t care what you think about it.”
5. Jim Norton
“I watched him tank (on purpose!! he wanted the audience to have a bad time; this was absolutely not a case of genuinely trying and it not working; it was very explicit like we were now his enemy) a five-minute set because one person reacted in a way he didn’t like to his very first joke,” a Norton lover remembers.
6. Bernie Mac
Bernie Mac has a solidified slot on my top five comedians of all time, and it pained me to see his entry on the list so low. He’s lower on this forum’s list than I could ever allow him to be on a list of my own. His performance in the beloved Kings of Comedy film, along with his long-standing self-titled TV series, are just a few of the reasons why I hold the Mac as an all-time great.
7. Andrew Dice Clay
According to one confident critic, “A lot of his schtick is just saying crazy, ridiculous, disgusting things with little rhyme or reason. As long as they find it funny or think they can get a laugh, they’ll say it.”
8. Dave Chappelle
“Dave Chappelle at least has an overall narrative or social commentary aspect to their controversial material.” He is an all-time member of my greatest comedians list, and I truly believe this respondent was on to something with their comment.
9. George Carlin
George Carlin is one of comedy’s gifts to the world. This man spoke with conviction and did not care whose feelings got hurt. He was known for speaking the truth and was a no-holds-barred comedian. Carlin was a master of I don’t give a flip comedy, and the world is a bit of a sadder place without him.
10. Patrice O’Neal
O’Neal was born in New York but relocated to Boston at the tender age of one. Before he made his breakout into the comedic world, he held several off-key jobs. Patrice was a food cart vendor and a flower shop clerk, and he sold popcorn at the Boston Arena.
He attended an open mic event one night, and while in attendance, O’Neal heckled a comedian on stage who, in turn, challenged the comedy giant to try his hand on stage. O’neal did just that, and his name has been ringing bells ever since.
11. Anthony Jeselnik
“A lot of his schtick is just saying crazy, ridiculous, disgusting things with little rhyme or reason,” one comedy critic comments. “As long as they find it funny or think they can get a laugh, they’ll say it. This is a good example. Apparently, there was a lot that was cut by Comedy Central. The mix of laughter and discomfort on everyone’s faces is a beautiful thing.”
12. Neal Brennan
The co-creator and co-writer of Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show is well-known throughout the comedy realm. Brennan is the youngest of ten children born to Irish Catholic parents in Villanova, PA. Neil reprised his role as the doorman at the Boston Comedy Club for six months before his promotion to stage comic in 1992. Brennan was 18 when he got his foot in the door, and it has been a blur of greatness since then.
