The Death of Amy Winehouse changed the way we look at addiction and substance abuse. Yes, there has absolutely been a series of celebrities falling prey to their vices, but when the world lost Winehouse, it just hit differently. We all understood she had struggles but never could imagine they would take her down at such a young age.

Robin Williams’ death shows the world that even after a person has overcome their battles with addiction, it still has a lasting effect on their mental capabilities. Many times Williams openly spoke about his battles with addiction, but it wasn’t until after his death that we understood how severely addiction and depression had affected him.

Apple would have been a completely different entity had Steve Jobs not died. Despite having one of the more curable forms of pancreatic cancer, Jobs lost his battle nonetheless. Many believe the entrepreneur and innovator would not have allowed for this rinse-dry-repeat method the company is currently using.
6. Steve Irwin
One commenter joked we are not living in the “good timeline,” and they know it because we lost the Crocodile Hunter. He was a pure joy of a soul.
7. Carrie Fisher
The legendary Carrie Fisher embodied the Princess Leia role in the Star Wars franchise. Several individuals noted the increased use of posthumous CGI for late, great actors and actresses. Fisher’s death also sheds light on the severity of the effects of sleep apnea on women.
8. Tupac Shakur
An intelligent and complex man, Tupac had an impact on hip hop as a whole, not just the rap genre. Had he not died at the young age of 26, we can only imagine the immense change he would have implemented in the world today.
9. Anton Yelchin
Anton Yelchin’s died at age 27, and it was such a tragic death. A bunch of fans can only speculate the type of roles he would have been in had he and his career matured. Others noted his death led to an undisclosed settlement between Yelchin’s parents and the manufacturer of Jeep, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, in March 2018.
10. Prince
Prince was very vocal in the fact that he was anti-streaming because of the fact that most platforms support free streaming. Add to that, he also felt as though the artists were not being compensated accordingly for their music being used on streaming services.
11. Philip Seymour Hoffman
Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death was a bigger shocker to the world because collectively, we watched him battle his way out of a horrible opioid addiction. His relapse and subsequent death turned up the brightness of an already spotlit epidemic, which is the opioid crisis.
12. Aaliyah
Singer and actress Aaliyah Haughton died suddenly and tragically in a plane crash. She was credited as a key element in reimagining and reinventing the contemporary R&B, pop, and hip-hop genres. She was dubbed the “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop.”
13. River Phoenix
Plenty of cinephiles noted that Leonardo DiCaprio would most notably NOT be the A-list actor that he is now had we not tragically lost River Phoenix. Others go a little further and wonder how his younger brother Joaquin’s career would have turned out as well.
