15 Actors and Actresses With Insanely Diverse Roles They Nail Every Time

Written By CJ Ervin

Today is a great day to be sober. Thanks for stopping by.

Do you have any favorite actors or actresses who are insanely diverse and great in every role? You’ve got company. Recently, someone polled an online entertainment forum. Here is who they volunteered as the best of the best.

1. Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman has played everyone, from Commissioner Gordon to Winston Churchill to Dracula. This guy has had a weathered career. One person noted, “One of us could be played by Gary Oldman, and you wouldn’t even know.”

2. Willem Dafoe

Some of my favorite Willem Dafoe lines come from his character, Green Goblin/ Norman Osborn, in the Spider-Man universe. My most recent favorite quote comes from the latest Spider-Man movie, No Way Home, “Norman’s on sabbatical HON-NEY!” He also played a keen-eyed detective in The Boondock Saints, and he even played Jesus of Nazerus

3. Christian Bale

Christian Bale is a highly talented actor. He can absorb and personalize the characteristics of the person he plays on screen. He has made physical transformations, does excellent work with accents, and is an all-around stupendously diverse actor.

4. Tilda Swinton

She is indeed a chameleon in her field. Tilda Swinton is a fantastic actress. She consistently gets lots in her roles, small or big, no matter the length of screen time. Several cinephiles spoke of the photo of David Bowie and Tilda Swinton dressed as one another.

5. Hugo Weaving

This gentleman is a thoroughbred who is timeless and talented. You can drop him in any role, and he will rock the house. “You can put him in any time, place, or universe, and he’ll make you believe he belongs there.

6. Doug Jones

Doug Jones has such a great mastery of transforming performances that he is barely recognizable as himself in the role. He has played roles such as The Silver Surfer, an amphibious being in more than one film, and a ghoulish-looking monster on the TV show What We Do in the Shadows.

7. John Lithgow

Rumored to be Tim Burton’s original choice for the Joker, Lithgow can play anything from an alien scout to a murderous psycho to Winston Churchill. This man is definitely skilled in his craft. However, Dexter fans agree that Lithgow was one of the scariest characters in the show.

8. Barbara Stanwyck

With a career that spanned almost six decades, Barbara Stanwyck has had many roles with various backgrounds during a time when diversity was not so popular.

9. Colin Farrell

I am a huge Batman fan, and when I tell you I had no idea Farrell played the Penguin in the latest rendition of The Batman, I mean, NO IDEA. Obviously, the makeup makes it difficult to recognize him immediately, but he worked hard to change his accent, his cadence of speech all the way down to his gait. He completely metamorphized into a whole different person.

10. Robin Williams

Robin Williams may or may not get the just amount of credit he deserves for his diverse catalog of roles, but I will mention him here today: Mrs. Doubtfire, InsomniaGoodwill Hunting, and The Birdcage, to name a few. The man was gifted and will be missed.

11. Daniel Day-Lewis

According to filmaholics, Daniel Day-Lewis would lose his mind if he took on too many roles. He thoroughly and utterly embodies the person he is portraying. He doesn’t take on the character; he becomes the character!

12. Toni Collette

One film fanatic stated they watched so many movies solely on the strength of Toni Collette’s presence in the film. She has played everything from a struggling single mom with a son who sees dead people to a driven and determined detective. She is incredibly versatile.

13. Meryl Streep

As an actress, Meryl Streep has a tremendous range. Another writes, “By chance, I saw Sophie’s Choice and Silkwood one after the other, and I couldn’t believe Meryl Streep’s range.”

14. Alan Rickman

His acting prowess is summed up in the brilliance that is his role as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, but he has played many diverse roles. Others pointed out” “He was a terrorist, a wizard, a cheating husband, an actor playing an alien, an English tyrant, a robot, and a gentleman.”

15. Woody Harrelson

Woody comes in as my un-unsung hero because his career has blossomed so quietly yet beautifully. But no one can deny the magnitude of his filmography; the man has a tally! No matter who he shares the screen with, he always steals the show.
