15 Forgotten Movies From the 90s To Tickle Your Nostalgia Bone

Are you searching for a little 90s nostalgia that is not on every list? Then, we got you covered. These are several of my favorite forgotten films from the 90s. Do you remember?

1. Kuffs (1992)

The 90s worshipped Christian Slater, and the film Kuffs is a forgotten classic. It follows George Kuffs (Slater) visiting his brother in San Francisco to request a loan. Unfortunately, his brother is murdered, and Kuffs uncovers a corrupt network while investigating his death, and he sets out to expose and bring justice to all involved. My sister and I watched this movie on repeat.

2. Untamed Heart (1993)

Speaking of Christian Slater, he and Marisa Tomei pair up for an unforgettable story in Untamed Heart. Caroline (Tomei) is a server at the same diner — Adam (Slater) is a shy and mysterious busser.

After he saves her from two men attempting to assault her, they begin dating. As they fall in love, Caroline discovers Adam has a unique health condition, and you watch them navigate life together. Rosie Perez also stars.

3. Only You (1994)

Marisa Tomei makes another appearance starring opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the forgotten 90s film, Only You. After a childhood occurrence, Faith Corvatch (Tomei) believes her soul mate and true love is a man named “Damon Bradley.”

Nonetheless, she doesn’t meet him and is ready to settle for a podiatrist when she suddenly flies to Italy on a whim to search for him. There, she meets Peter (Downey Jr.), who is captivated by her and pretends he is Damon Bradley. The movie is a charming forgotten gem.

4. Heart and Souls (1993)

Heart and Souls is Robert Downey Jr. at his finest. Four souls, Harrison (Charles Grodin), Penny (Alfre Woodard), Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), and Milo (Tom Sizemore), are stuck to a baby after dying in a bus accident in 1959. Thomas (Downey Jr.) grows up to become an obnoxious businessman before they realize they need his help to move on. That’s when the laughs really begin.

5. Captain Ron (1992)

My dad and I watched Captain Ron more than any other film. It is a hilarious 90s gem starring Kurt Russell as Captain Ron and Martin Short as Martin Harvey. Harvey takes his family on a Caribbean vacation after inheriting a boat after his uncle dies.

He hires Captain Ron to sail the boat to Miami, and it doesn’t take long before he’s immediately regretting that decision. This movie is so much fun and filled with quotable lines: “ Hey! Uh, leg feels a lot better now, boss. I always been a fast healer, you know. ‘Course I believe in Jesus, so that helps.”

6. Blood In Blood Out: Bound By Honor (1993)

Blood In Blood Out: Bound By Honor is one of my favorite films of all time. It interweaves the stories of three Chicano relatives and members of an East Los Angeles gang, the Vatos Locos. After a series of unfortunate events, their three lives go in very different directions, forever changing their lives and relationships.

It’s an inside look into San Quentin prison gangs and criminal activities from 1972 to 1984. It is a three-hour film that has the immediate effect of wanting to watch it again as soon as it ends. It’s challenging to find streaming, but it is uploaded on YouTube. I can not say enough about this one. The music is also incredible.

7. Dead Again (1991)

Speaking of music, Dead Again is a movie score masterpiece. It tells a one-of-a-kind story of a private investigator Mike Church (Kenneth Branagh), helping a mute woman suffering from amnesia (Emma Thompson). She undergoes hypnosis and recalls vivid memories of a 1940s couple torn apart by murder.

As the pieces of that puzzle come together, she soon realizes she may be in grave danger. This film flashes back and forth between the two stories and will keep you guessing until the end.

8. HouseSitter (1992)

HouseSitter is one of Goldie Hawn’s best performances. I love her so much. She plays Gwen, a server who spends the night with an architect Newton Davis (Steve Martin), who also was recently dumped after a failed proposal.

A set of circumstances find Gwen squatting in the dream home Davis built for him and Becky (Dana Delany). They strike up a deal. She can stay in the house, and she will help him win back Becky. So many humorous moments provide a ton of laughter.

9. The Program (1993)

The Program is a forgotten 90s movie I watched on repeat growing up. It follows the lives of players on an American college football team coping with the pressure to make a bowl game. It stars James Caan, Halle Berry, Omar Epps, Kristy Swanson, and Craig Sheffer.

10. Renaissance Man (1994)

Renaissance Man is a hilariously heartwarming film that follows Bill Rago (Danny DeVito) taking a job teaching English at an Army base after getting fired from his advertising career. He teaches “Hamlet” to a group of underachieving soldiers as their confidence grows and they overcome different challenges. Danny DeVito delivers an outstanding performance among an all-star cast: Gregory Hines, James Remar, Stacey Dash, Khalil Cain, and Mark Wahlberg.

11. It Could Happen to You (1994)

It Could Happen to You is based on a real-life news story and is an underrated 90s film. It follows a New York City police officer, Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage), splitting his four million dollar lottery winnings with a server, Yvonne Biasi (Bridget Fonda).

He didn’t have money to leave a tip for her and told her he would split the ticket if he won. His wife Muriel (Rosie Perez) is furious with the arrangement and plots to take all of the money.

12. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992)

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is one I’ve seen dozens of times. It tells the story of Claire Bartel (Annabella Sciorra) and her family. After Claire is assaulted by her doctor during an exam during pregnancy, she reports him, and he takes his own life.

His pregnant wife, Peyton (Rebecca De Mornay), miscarries from the stress of the situation, and she plots a devious revenge scheme by first infiltrating the family by posing as a nanny.

13. The Super (1991)

The Super is a hilarious forgotten 90s film that stars Joe Pesci as Louie Kritski, a heartless New York City slumlord who is court-ordered to live in one of his slums until the building is brought up to code.

14. The Cutting Edge (1992)

As someone who wanted to be a figure skater, I’ve watched The Cutting Edge more times than I remember. It follows spoiled figure skater Kate Moseley (Moira Kelly). After a fall in the 1988 Olympics causes her to lose the gold, she needs a new partner.

An arrogant ice hockey player, Doug Dorsey (D.B. Sweeney), who suffers a career-ending injury, takes the job as a last-chance effort to use his skating talents. They can’t stand each other, and it makes for great comedy as they grow close during training. Toe pick!

15. Poison Ivy (1992)

Poison Ivy follows a student named Ivy (Drew Barrymore) befriending another student, Sylvie Cooper (Sara Gilbert). Sylvie desires to be more spontaneous and wild like Ivy, and Ivy envies Sylvia’s family.

It leads to Ivy seducing Sylvie’s dad Darryl (Tom Skerritt), to have that family life for herself. She takes steps to kill Sylvie’s seriously ill mother, Georgie (Cheryl Ladd), and makes it look like Sylvie is guilty.

Let’s look at some once brilliant comedy movies that are unlikely to be produced or laughed at in the current cultural climate (unless you grew up watching them).
