5 Things Considered “Last Straws” for Former Donald Trump Supporters

An online discussion recently broke out when someone asked former Donald Trump supporters what their “last straw” was before walking away from MAGA. Here are THEIR honest responses.

1. The January 6th, 2021 Insurrection

Countless former supporters admit the insurrection was their last straw. One could not believe that he had advocated and encouraged it. “January 6th, 2021, was an attempted coup. Extreme supporters of Trump stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to overturn the election.”

A second user admits, “It was January 6th for my stepdad. Watching that live — actually had him apologizing to my mom and me for voting for him.”

“Trump did nothing to stop it while it was happening. There’s a lot of evidence that he wanted and encouraged it. He planned to have Mike Pence declare the election fraudulent and use fake electors to vote himself back in as the winner. It’s a big deal because it’s the first time in American history that we didn’t have a peaceful change of power.”

2. His Response to the Pandemic

“I thought his Presidency took a major nosedive with his response to COVID-19,” suggests one. “It just seemed he was turning everything political. He always seemed to be in a standoff with the Democrat Governor from my state (who also is a tool).

Yeah, I get he faced something never seen in modern times, but I thought his response was lousy.” Another forum member adds that their mom stopped supporting him at this moment too.

3. George Floyd’s Death

“Can’t remember exactly, but it had something to do with George Floyd’s death,” shares one. “Some insensitive comment he made about it just didn’t sit right with me.

I stopped being a Republican altogether once I saw how many were siding with the police after his death. I think it was the first time I really paid attention to a police brutality case, and it changed my whole perspective on everything.” I remember many people’s eyes and ears waking when that happened.

4. Moved Out of the Echo Chamber

A kid explains, “I got a job when I was 18, met other people with different ideals, and finally got out of the echo chamber that was my house. Sadly it was too late; I had already voted in 2016. Still regret it and feel shame for doing it.

I had it drilled into my head by my mother that Hillary would get us into a war with Russia, and I’d get drafted, and that terrified me.” That makes me so sad.

5. Couldn’t Make Excuses for Him Anymore

After years of insensitive comments, scandals, mocking people with disabilities, and more, several people turned away from Donald Trump and the cult of MAGA. A former supporter clarifies, “Honesty, it took me a while, but I just couldn’t make exude for him anymore and realized how awful he was.” Others admit that they couldn’t handle his shenanigans and insensitivity anymore.
