Are there any movies you enjoyed but will only ever watch once? You’re not alone. After someone asked an online entertainment forum for said films, here are their top picks. Do you agree?
1. Come and See (1985)
Many viewers described Come and See as an absolute must-see. This anti-war film has been described as shocking and grueling. Many others say its a definitely one-and-done, and it has stuck with most viewers longer than they expect.
2. Schindler’s List (1993)
One film viewer recalls, “I cannot watch it again, but I am so glad I saw it. I saw it while I was at grad school at Boston University. I sulked back across the Square and up three flights to my brownstone apartment and slept the rest of the weekend.”
3. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
“Lawrence of Arabia is a movie that holds an unofficial spot in my top 20 films because I absolutely loved it. Just rarely have an opportunity for a four-hour rewatch.” One critic declares that four hours is too long of a film; they must have never been to the Snyder-verse.”
4. Irréversible (2002)
I have never seen the feature myself, but I have read enough reviews and critiques about it to know it is a doozy. The next critic shared, “I actually almost rewatched a month ago, but started it and realized I wasn’t in the mood for what was about to unfold.”
5. Interstellar (2014)
“I’ve been wanting to rewatch it ever since I saw it in the cinema, but it’s nearly impossible to replicate that experience at home. I was waiting for the right time that I could blast the speakers with no complaints from the neighbors.” I, for one, don’t agree with this entry on the list because I have personally seen this film at least fifty times!
6. Ikiru (1952)
Another cinephile was happy to reply with, “Kurosawa’s Ikiru made my personal top 20 after one viewing. I was in the perfect mindset, and I kind of don’t want to sully the experience. But I do need to revisit it.”
7. A Brighter Summer Day (1991)
Several cineasts declared, “A Brighter Summers Day is my second favorite film, and I really want to rewatch it, but I just don’t have the time. Even though I know it’s one of my all-time favorites, it’s daunting to sit down and rewatch a four-hour movie.”
8. Mother! (2017)
“Mother! Was a masterpiece, but I never want to watch it again, and I can still see some of those images in my head.” I am with this opinion, and I don’t think I can sit and watch this film again either. I feel like it was a great watch just can’t rewatch it.
9. Raging Bull (1980)
According to several classic movie buffs, “While Raging Bull is a legit masterpiece, I genuinely don’t think I can watch it again. One of the toughest movies to stomach and endure, in my opinion.”
10. The Godfather Part II (1974)
“I’ve only seen Godfather Pt II once, and that was around four years ago or so,” a Corleone lover shares. “I think it’s about time I go back to them when I get the chance.” I feel the same way, except I just don’t think I can spare three and a half hours for a film session.
11. Full Metal Jacket (1987)
“It’s a perfect film and is currently sitting at my number five all-time,” and I have this film sitting in my top ten favorite films as well. “I would love to see it again, but the structuring of it makes it tough to just causally rewatch for me.”
12. Ex Machina (2014)
“Ex Machina is a great movie, but the ending really messed with me. Crazy to think because I can watch Magnolia, Happiness, Melancholia, The Reflecting Skin, or any one of Darren Aronofsky’s many films about suffering with a big smile on my face, but, man Ex Machina hit me right in the feels,” one Aronofsky-ite gladly admits.
