Have you ever heard Watercooler talk about a show that you just weren’t a fan of? Even though everyone at work is pining over this show, you just will not submit and watch it. On a popular internet community, someone asked, “What are some shows you refuse to watch and why?” Here is what they had to say in response.
1. 13 Reasons Why (2017 – 2020)

One commenter mentioned with great conviction, “Thirteen Reasons Why was recommended by my best friend, whose pitch was ‘I bawled my eyes out, and then I felt used up and empty.’ Nah. I have plenty of my own neuroses and anxiety. I don’t need the added stress.”
2. The Bachelorette (2003 – Present)

“I think it’s underrated how much of an impact the competition aspect has on the contestants being soooo in love with the lead.” Over one hundred viewers agreed, “Like… do you actually think this dude is your dream guy, or are you just competitive by nature?”
3. Cowboy Beebop (2021)

An anime lover voiced their disdain by saying, “Live-action anime, in general, makes me wonder who it’s for. Not anyone who watched the original, and I can’t imagine anyone who hasn’t watched the original would be interested in the concept.” As an anime fan myself, I can agree most live-action attempts have fallen on deaf ears, at least in MY case.
4. Anything With More Than 400 Episodes

Over one thousand anime fanatics declared, “I’m pretty adamant that I will never watch an anime with 400+ episodes. I don’t care how good it is. If I can watch 10+ good anime in that same amount of time, I’m doing that instead.” No question about it. I do not disagree with this one here. I have tapped out of a few anime myself due to its extensive catalog.
5. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (2020 – Present)

“It’s a weird mix of crazy situations and high school level bickering, all through the lens of extremely privileged housewives that can be shockingly stupid and petty despite where they are in life.” The adamant viewer continued to vent by adding, “It is 100% trash TV, though, and manufactured drama milked over multiple episodes. It’s totally valid to not partake in the brain rot.”
6. This Is Us (2016 – 2022)

One dissenter emphasizes, “They covered something traumatic that happened to me and gave it one episode. It wrecked me for years. They gave it one episode and just moved on. Didn’t mention it again. It was then that I realized they were just making the rounds on everyone’s issues without giving each one the attention they deserved.”
7. The Witcher (2019 – Present)

Many Netflix subscribers lamented, “The Witcher. Netflix REALLY messed up the series so badly that they lost an A-list celebrity because they just had to have their sappy stuff added to the storyline.” Other avid readers complained, “Netflix just seems to be really bad at adapting things in general. Every time I hear they’re going to adapt a book or something I like, I get annoyed because I know they’ll just screw the pooch again.”
9. Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2020 – 2024)

Others outlined with great detail, “There’s such a huge difference between horror that explores dark and terrifying themes, thrillers that are exciting scary, slashers that can veer into comedy, all that horror as a genre can entail…. and dragging up the real trauma and horrible events that changed lives forever.
Sickens me that Dahmer as a show was made against the wishes of the victims and how we fetishize and mythologize these terrible acts of real cruelty, divorcing them from the real circumstances and impacts and putting them up against figures who were always fictional and enacting no true harm upon anyone.”
10. The Wall (2016 – Present)

“It’s even infected game shows.” Plenty of gameshow fans agreed, “I wanted to like The Wall so bad, but they dig up all the upper-middle-class sad people who ‘could do so much good’ with the money and make it all about crying over whether the contract was signed or not. Game shows are supposed to be fun. You never saw this stuff on The Price is Right.”
11. Hospital Dramas

A primetime TV viewer elaborates, “I never got why people feel they are appealing. Logic dictates most of the patients should survive, given you don’t want a show based primarily on sad deaths. This makes for largely predictable tension, and since my medical interest is limited, I don’t find the minutiae of various misdiagnoses all too captivating.”
12. Tiger King (2020 – 2021)

A Netflix lover shared, “I never understood what it was about, and the nonstop memes and posting about it online has made me hate the show and the people in it with a burning passion.” Tiger King embodied the spirit of the pandemic; hectic, confusing, and full of tigers in cages! The series was not good by any means, but it was definitely a clear sign that we were in for some strange times.
