Everything is so expensive, and it feels like there is no end in sight. An internet forum member suggests that it’s never coming back. “The companies took the opportunity to raise the water level without raising your salaries, and in many cases DECREASING your salaries. This is how you live now – and forever – in the United States.” Here is what the rest of the forum had to say.
1. Houses
It’s no surprise that the number one-voted response is “Houses.” A forum member suggests: “You can blame companies, including foreign ones and rich people, buying up all the houses and leasing them out or sitting on them so their value grows. It should be illegal to own more than three houses.”
2. Cereal
Some places are reporting $7 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats! Who thinks cereal is worth that much? It’s not. Cereals are filled with cancer-causing chemicals anyway. I agree with one who states: “I don’t know how they can get away with these prices on something that barely even qualifies as food.”
3. Concert Tickets
Concert tickets are entirely out of hand. They cost too much, and there’s a lot of — scamming the consumer — that goes on in buying a ticket. Someone admits they attempted to get tickets to see Artic Monkeys. Nonetheless, they allege that he watched them jump from $99 to $400 plus within a second.
4. Potato Chips
Potato chips have risen to over $5 a bag nationwide. On top of being over-the-top expensive, bags of chips are shrinking, too. It’s called “Shrinkflation.” One shopper claims the party-size bags have shrunk to the size of regular bags from three years ago.
5. Personal Services
Many people have stopped spending their hard-earned cash on personal services, including manicures, pedicures, massages, and haircuts. Women confess they went from getting their nails done once a month to only on occasions like weddings.
6. Dining Out
Have you seen how ridiculously high food prices are at food establishments today? A diner admits their 8-pc. chicken wings and a basket of fries jumped to $16, so they’ve stopped making that purchase.
Others report seeing burgers for $25. Eating at home is significantly more expensive than three years ago but considerably cheaper than dining out. Fast food prices have risen to the costs of former dinners in sit-down restaurants.
The reality is that until everyone stops supporting ridiculously overpriced services like DoorDash and Uber Eats to support these prices, it’s never coming down.
7. Automobiles
The pandemic completely obliterated the used car market. Vehicles are expensive, and the used prices are close to brand new. So many people are moving into bigger car payments with higher insurance premiums while others are refusing.
8. Meat
The price of meat is high right now, even on cheaper cuts of chicken. Several people confirm they’ve accidentally become vegetarian by switching to recipes with beans and lentils.
9. Brand-Named Soda
Can you tell the difference between store-brand soda and your Diet Coke? According to numerous consumers, there’s no difference. Certainly not one that warrants paying $9.99 for a 12-pack of Pepsi.
10. Crab Legs
Are you willing to spend $40 for snow crab and $80 a pound for king? These forum members aren’t supporting those outrageous prices. One notes these prices were at Costco.
11. Fancy Coffees
My husband and I recently invested in an espresso machine because going to Starbucks or any other coffee shop is getting out of hand. Countless individuals confess to doing the same thing and saving hundreds of dollars each month.
12. Birthday Cards
Who is out here paying $9.99 for birthday cards because it plays music? Not this crowd. Heads up, the dollar stores have greeting cards. However, even their dollar store price has jumped to $1.25 on everything.
