Have you ever watched a movie that stayed with you for days? For example, I made the mistake of watching a terrible film called Kids. It stayed with me for days, but not in a good way. I’d advise you never to watch it. However, these films are so enthralling they entertain you for days after the credits roll.
1. Arrival (2016)
The first movie suggestion is about a sci-fi film. The movie stars Ian Donelly as Jeremy Renner, a linguistic expert. Jeremy is entrusted with a particular task. He must interpret the language of aliens whose spaceship just landed on Earth. Arrival is packed with action and high-quality graphics that will blow your mind.
2. 12 Angry Men (1997)
12 Angry Men movie is a gripping story about an unestablished Latino-American boy accused of his father’s murder. Twelve stingy white jurors, including Jack Lemmon, are shown trying to correct or falsify the statement in a heated courtroom argument. It is a story about perceptions and racial prejudices bound to impact the viewer.
3. The Big Short (2015)
The Big Short bases the movie on the 2008 stock market crash. It shows stock expert Michael (Christian Bale) figuring out that subprime housing may go into default. Hence, Michael bets millions of his client’s dollars into credit default swaps. Other opportunists like Jared (Ryan Gosling) and Mark( Steve Carell) also jump on this opportunity to take advantage of people.
4. Awakenings (1990)
Awakening is an eye-opening drama about a doctor’s extraordinary work. The movie showcases the actor Robin Willians as Dr. Malcolm Sayer, who is determined to treat his catatonic patients. Malcom’s supervisors are reluctant when he treats the patients with a new drug. His theories are soon turned into hope as patients’ lives are transformed.
5. Gattaca (1997)
Gattaca is a film that’s set in a dystopian world. The movie features a unique story about Vincent (Ethan Hawkes), a man who dreams of space travel but is considered inferior due to his genes. Vincent purchases the gene of Jerome (Jude Law) and joins the space programs. The plot progresses and builds to a climax that will leave you shocked.
6. The Game (1997)
If you want to experience thrill and mystery, watch out for The Game. The story starts with a successful banker named Nicholas (Michael Douglas) receiving a strange gift from his brother. It is a bank voucher that invites him to a personal game. The movie follows Nicholas looking for answers to solve the puzzling game.
7. Interstellar (2014)
The famous director, Christopher Nolan, has made Interstellar for the science geeks. Ex-NASA pilot Cooper ( Matthew McConaughey) is requested to pilot a space expedition when life on Earth becomes impossible. A fantastic plot filled with emotional performances; immerse yourself in this remarkable watch, Interstellar.
8. Apocalypto (2006)
If you’re looking for a lot of bloodshed, Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto is for you. In the prosperous Mayan kingdom, things are slowly crumbling. Multiple human sacrifices are being made for crops and life to return to normal. Jaguar (Rudy Youngblood) is the protagonist who tries fighting back after he and his tribe are wrongfully captured.
9. The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
This film discusses human relations by portraying two drinking friends, Pádraic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson), caught in a fight. Afterward, Pádraic journeys with his sister and another friend to mend his broken friendship. The end will surprise you in this conflict about personal values, loss of culture, and people you love.
10. Mulholland Drive (2001)
Another indie film here, and this one is directed by David Lynch. The movie stars Rita (Laura Harring), who is left amnesiac after being hit by a car. Waking up in a dreamy Los Angeles, she looks for help. Betty (Naomi Watts), a blond aspiring actress, collaborates with Rita to find her true identity. So, if you want to reminisce the old Hollywood vibes, this movie will take you on a ride.
11. Children of Men (2006)
Children of Men portrays the world facing infertility. Among the dystopian masses of the world, ongoing wars have led to infertility. The country has started detaining people in Britain, where asylum seekers are plentiful. Theo (Clive Owen) is an activist in the movie who shelters a pregnant lady to safety amidst the ongoing events.
12. The Platform (2009)
The Platform is a thrilling movie to watch if you want to experience something unusual. Iván Massagué plays Goreng, a prison inmate. The prison system feeds the prisoners on a descending platform. Where upper-level prisoners often take more, causing unfair distribution. The brutal portrayal of a power struggle will surely leave the viewers in deep thought.
13. Synecdoche, New York (2008)
This eye-opener features people’s existential crises. A further look into the movie shows an ill and unsuccessful theater director (Philip Hoffman) trying to direct a brilliant play. He puts the actors in a mockup of New York, orchestrating their life stories, which is a success. This film is perfect for deep thinkers who enjoy pondering over various social topics.
14. Waking Life (2001)
A breakthrough in animation history, Richard Linklater’s Waking Life features Wiley Wiggins as the main character. This movie feels like a lucid dream in which the main character constantly switches to reality. It’s a fun and stimulating film about life itself and the ‘realness’ factor it carries. Plus, the fantastic graphics are one-of-a-kind expressions to observe.
15. Nocturnal Animals (2016)
This last film will have you super invested in the drama. Directed by Tom Ford, it peeks into the peaceful life of Susan (Amy Adams), who is sent an excerpt from her first husband’s book. After reading, Amy discovers her husband’s story about a man, his wife, and his child being taken away. This saucy plot involves a revenge plan that will baffle you for days, so watch it.
