I love a good movie based on actual events, don’t you? Recently, someone asked a popular online film forum for true stories that will shock and stun the viewers. Here is what they had to say. Do you agree?
1. Compliance (2012)
One moviegoer recalled, “One of the most upsetting things I’ve ever watched. I had to watch it in 20-minute increments because of how disgusting and infuriating the entire story was.”
2. Rush (2013)
In the 70s, there was a huge rivalry between Formula 1 racers Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Many made note that Niki Lauda really did try to put an end to the race that almost killed him.
3. Moneyball (2011)
“In Moneyball, the A’s blowing an 11-run lead and then winning on a home run scored by their misfit recruit reeked of Hollywood nonsense. It’s exactly how it went down.”
4. The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)
This feature develops tension and establishes the two lions as a threat very well. If you look up the true story The Ghost and the Darkness is based on, you will see that it is pretty accurately depicted on screen.
5. Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Once you have seen this picture, it will be hard to believe that the true story is even crazier than the movie. The events shown in the movie were intentionally dulled or changed altogether because movie viewers wouldn’t believe it happened.
6. I, Tonya (2017)
When the Nancy Kerrigan Tonya Harding scandal was afoot, Margot Robbie was most likely a toddler which would explain her disbelief in the factual background of the movie I, Tonya. Initially, when Robbie got her script, she thought it was very creative and well-written. I wish I could have been there when she learned the story was crazier in real life.
7. Changeling (2008)
Changeling failed to garner positive reviews because film critics believed the story shown on screen was too unbelievable to be true. “It stars Angelina Jolie as a woman united with a boy who she realizes is not her missing son. When she tries to demonstrate this to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional, labeled as an unfit mother, and confined to a psychiatric ward.”
8. Pain & Gain (2013)
Pain and Gain shares the insane story of a gym manager who recruits two others to help him commit a crime. After many failed attempts, the trio finally achieves success, or so they think. The victim escapes and tries to tell the police, but the story of what took place is so outlandish that even the police don’t believe it.
9. Apollo 13 (1995)
Another shared, “Test audiences didn’t believe that the astronauts would have survived and didn’t believe that an astronaut’s wife dropped her wedding ring down the drain the morning of the launch. Seemed like Hollywood drama manufacturing, but nope, it was real!”
10. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1995)
A large majority of the insanity known as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was based on reality. It was almost like Johnny Depp was reading an excerpt written by those who experienced these events.
