Former Donald Trump Supporters Confess These 10 Things to Be Their “Final Straws”

Do you know a former Trump supporter who eventually walked away? An online discussion recently broke out asking former Donald Trump supporters what their “last straw” was before walking away from MAGA. Here are THEIR honest responses.

1. Gassing People for the Bible Photo

Do you remember when Trump gassed peaceful protestors for an opportunity to get a photo of him holding a Bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church after walking across Lafayette Park from the White House in Washington, DC, on June 1, 2020? I could not obtain the photo.

However, that was the final straw for one man who explains: “I was a ‘Hate the man but appreciate his efforts and goals’ type who felt he was the lesser of two evils. Then the bible photo op happened. And I realized he was just an American Putin.
I lost all remaining respect when he started praising fascists.”

2. Handling The Las Vegas Shooting

Trump’s handling of the Las Vegas shooting on October 1, 2017, is why several people confirmed they had enough of former President Donald Trump. One user elaborates: “Poor handling of the Las Vegas shooting.

I don’t know if I’d say I was ever a supporter, but as a Republican, I still felt it applied. But yeah, during a moment of national tragedy. Where everyone was hurt, our president, our leader… avoided telling us anything.”

3. Gun Rights

On an entirely different note, multiple people admit that they lost their respect for Trump when he didn’t do anything for gun rights. An enthusiast explains: “After all their years of ro-gun talk, we finally get them in control of the entire government, a once-in-a-lifetime blank check….and they completely wasted it. No carry reciprocity, no Short-barreled rifle (SBR) or Suppressor deregulation, nothing. They didn’t even try.”

4. His Overturning Roe vs. Wade

One man shares a personal story about his wife and his pregnancy. The doctor showed us that the baby was developing with its organs outside its body, so it had a 0% chance of survival. We were advised to have the baby aborted. But the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade just two days prior to this diagnosis.”

Ultimately, they had to travel to California, and this user vows never to vote Republican again. He elaborates: ” I stupidly voted for Trump in 2020 because I believed he was an outsider fighting the system.”

5. His January 6th, 2021 Insurrection

Countless former supporters admit the insurrection was their last straw. One could not believe that he had advocated and encouraged it. “January 6th, 2021, was an attempted coup. Extreme supporters of Trump stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to overturn the election.”

A second user admits, “It was January 6th for my stepdad. Watching that live — actually had him apologizing to my mom and me for voting for him.”

“Trump did nothing to stop it while it was happening. There’s a lot of evidence that he wanted and encouraged it. He planned to have Mike Pence declare the election fraudulent and use fake electors to vote himself back in as the winner. It’s a big deal because it’s the first time in American history that we didn’t have a peaceful change of power.”

6. His Inability to Shut Up

Countless individuals had enough of Trump when they realized he would never shut up. Though not specifying the final tantrum, a former supporter states: “He wouldn’t shut up. He didn’t know when to shut up, or he didn’t know how to shut up.”

7. His Response to the Pandemic

“I thought his Presidency took a major nosedive with his response to COVID-19,” suggests one. “It just seemed he was turning everything political. He always seemed to be in a standoff with the Democrat Governor from my state (who also is a tool).

Yeah, I get he faced something never seen in modern times, but I thought his response was lousy.” Another forum member adds that their mom stopped supporting him at this moment, too.

8. His Response George Floyd’s Death

“Can’t remember exactly, but it had something to do with George Floyd’s death,” shares one. “Some insensitive comment he made about it just didn’t sit right with me.

I stopped being a Republican altogether once I saw how many were siding with the police after his death. I think it was the first time I really paid attention to a police brutality case, and it changed my whole perspective on everything.” I remember many people’s eyes and ears waking when that happened.

9. Moved Out of the Echo Chamber

A kid explains, “I got a job when I was 18, met other people with different ideals, and finally got out of the echo chamber that was my house. Sadly, it was too late; I had already voted in 2016. Still regret it and feel shame for doing it.

I had it drilled into my head by my mother that Hillary would get us into a war with Russia, and I’d get drafted, and that terrified me.” That makes me so sad.

10. Couldn’t Make Excuses for Him Anymore

After years of insensitive comments, scandals, mocking people with disabilities, and more, several people turned away from Donald Trump and the cult of MAGA. A former supporter clarifies, “Honesty, it took me a while, but I just couldn’t make exude for him anymore and realized how awful he was.” Others admit that they couldn’t handle his shenanigans and insensitivity anymore.
