12 Terrible Brands That the Public Would Pay To Put Out of Business

The world is full of forced labor, schemes, and terrible brands that are involved in other shady practices. Recently, an internet discussion broke out about which companies people would love to see go out of business. Here are their top recommendations. Do you agree?

1. Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster. You’ll try and cross-shop tickets to realize they always redirect you to Ticketmaster, where you’ll pay a massive amount in convenience fees. By buying two tickets, you’re paying for three.

One user suggests, “They also own a ticket resale company and set blocks of tickets aside for resale at marked-up prices. They also negotiated with ticket brokers to sell certain tickets to them before public availability. Several years ago, I read a Rolling Stone article detailing all their shenanigans.”

2. Nestlé

I’m not at all surprised that Nestlé tops this list. Did you know it’s nearly impossible to avoid spending money with them? That’s right. They own over 2000 brands. These include Starbucks (Perpetual License), Carnation, Pure Leaf, Häagen-Dazs, Purina, Gerber, DiGiorno, Hot Pockets, and Nature’s Bounty.

3. Comcast

Comcast is the most prominent company many people know that was so bad at customer service that it changed its name to distance itself from itself. “They didn’t change their terrible customer service just thought a new name would be enough of a reset to move on.” That’s right, Xfinity. You’re not fooling us.

4. All MLM Brands

So many predatory multi-level marketing companies are building cult-like followings by promising unrealistic hope and opportunities. Some companies people are sick of seeing in their social media feeds are Monat, Thrive, and Herbalife. The latter has “Nutrition Shops” opening up all over the place.

Someone explains knowing a man who left his six-figure job to open one. “He was broke within a year and tried to crawl back to his old job, but he had napalmed all his bridges in his field. Dude lost everything.” Basically, these are those high school peeps (boss babes) in your DMs trying to get you to start “small businesses.”

5. Purdue Pharma

One user says, “Highly recommend the book Empire of Pain, which tells the story of the Sackler family and the origin of the opioid epidemic in America. The insane history behind the pharmaceutical industry, focusing heavily on Purdue Pharma.”

Another user adds, “It is sickening the size of their role in the opioid epidemic. They are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, all for that sweet money. There is a documentary on Netflix that goes over some of their involvement and their marketing of oxycontin called The Pharmacist.

Even that limited coverage of their actions made me sick. They knew their substance was addictive, dangerous, and hurting and killing people, but they honestly did not care as long as they made money.”

6. Payday Loan Companies

Numerous people have been done dirty by payday loans’ predatory practices. The interest rates are insane, and you get stuck in a cycle of paying every two weeks to get your paycheck back. I’ve known a few people stuck in these cycles, which are challenging to get out of.

7. Shell

One user states, “Shell. They single-handedly destroyed Nigeria by promising to help them out of poverty. They poisoned Nigeria’s water supply with oil spills and then lied about it. Nigeria can’t kick Shell out because it would destroy Nigeria’s economy.”

8. DuPont

“DuPont,” one states. “Those jerks poisoned the whole damn world with Teflon. And it’s literally in everything. I got my 75-year-old mom invested in learning about products she uses, and she threw out a few things and her air-fryer. She’s getting away from it. Thankfully, she still has a lot of things she had from when she was a lot younger.”

9. De Beers

Another adds, “De Beers. One of the main exploiters of West Africa in recent memory, a near monopoly on diamonds jacking up prices, insists that you must buy your loved one a real diamond from them and not a cheaper synthetic one in order to prove that love.”

10. SHEIN

SHEIN has been in the news a few times, most recently because Scientists found that a jacket for toddlers purchased from Chinese retailer SHEIN contained almost 20 times the amount of lead that Health Canada says is safe for children.

One person adds, “Aside from contributing an ungodly amount to “fast fashion” with clothes that are designed to break down quickly, they steal from artists regularly, make harmful clothing, and use forced labor to do it.”

11. Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Countless people know Susan G. Komen’s “Breast Cancer Fight for the Cure” program. However, did you know, according to one, “They donate less than 21% of the money they take in cancer patients and research? The rest goes to costs and salaries.

There are several places to hide money on a form 990 that make them look better than they are. There are places to search charities’ 990 forms and check what they actually give.

Over 80% is pretty good for any charity, 70% for some huge charities that use advertising—anything below that, and I would never consider giving them a dime. Susan G Komen is likely the worst charity that has somehow not been exposed on a massive scale.”

12. Johnson & Johnson

Finally, do you remember when Johnson & Johnson knew baby powder causes cancer? Yet, they suppressed the studies for a long time. They also contributed significantly to the opioid epidemic with their marketing and distribution practices.

One notes they were “Misrepresenting that their opioids were safer and that they were non-addictive and aggressively targeting vulnerable populations through their marketing, among others. They just agreed a few months ago to pay out billions for a nationwide settlement of lawsuits brought by cities and states.”
