15 Things That Will Have You Questioning — Do People Actually Do That?

Have you ever found yourself asking: “Wait. People actually do this?” You’ve got company. After someone polled an online forum for examples of said things, here is what they confessed to.

1. Clapping After a Movie Ends

What is it about sitting in a room with a projector screen that makes people think they should applaud the film once it’s over? Many note this was a thing from the past that still spills over into midnight showings of new releases, as well as at Marvel and Star Wars films.

2. Clapping After an Airplane Lands

Have you ever been on an airplane that broke out into applause after the plane landed? It’s not uncommon. One theory is that it shows the pilots and crew how appreciative you are of arriving safely at your destination. Nonetheless, the pilots can’t hear it, leaving many questioning: “There are people who actually do this?”

3. Showering With Clothes On

Yes. You heard that correctly. Some people shower fully clothed, and it has us questioning — why? A quick look into the matter reveals various reasons, including a wet clothes fetish and saving money on laundry.

4. Spelunking

Spelunking is the exploration of caves. Have you seen The Descent or 127 Hours? No, thank you! Still, I love how one forum member puts it: “Hey guys, I’m currently in Makauwahi Cave, 25 miles under the surface, and in order to get through this 6×6 inch opening, I’m going to have to dislocate both my arms.”Haha, seriously, though. I don’t get it. Do you?

5. Putting Their Toaster Away

Is your toaster on the counter like normal human beings, or are you an oddball who puts it away after using it? Apparently, that is a thing. Some people don’t like leaving appliances on their counters. Blenders, toasters, you name it. Even if they use it every day.

6. Buildering

Have you seen those videos of people climbing insane structures and buildings without harnesses or safety lines? Talk about sweaty palms! I get vertigo just watching those videos.

7. Free Solo Climbing

Speaking of climbing without harnesses and safety lines, free solo climbing, or free soloing, is rock climbing, where the climbers (or free soloists) climb alone without ropes or other protective equipment, with only their climbing shoes and climbing chalk. This activity has many people in the forum asking — why?

8. Using Food Delivery Apps

Do you use food delivery apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash? Between the extra cost of the meals, taxes, delivery fees, and tips, it isn’t worth it. Still, numerous people use the apps. Some people even order from them multiple times a day!

9. Stealing Break Room Lunches

In the words of Ross Geller: “You ate my sandwich? MY SANDWICH!” Seriously though, stealing someone else’s lunch from the fridge in the company break room is commonplace and creates the space for asking: “People actually do that?”

I’ll never forget a coworker who drank my soda once. I accused her of stealing, and she laughed and dismissed it as “.50 cents, no biggie.” I asked her if she would take .50 cents out of the till, explaining it’s the same.

She never connected those dots. It wasn’t about the change; it was about taking something that doesn’t belong to you and then dismissing it as OK.

10. Watching Scripted Videos

Will somebody tell me who is out here watching scripted videos? They are terrible. How do you enjoy sitting through an obviously scripted clip of some husband-wife duo “pranking” each other? The worst is when you get pulled in a little before you realize it’s fake. It automatically induces the Kevin Hart eye roll face.

11. Hooking Up With Strangers

Several folks confess they don’t understand how someone can meet someone and then hook up an hour later. It has the thread questioning, ‘Don’t you worry about your health or heart?”

12. Believing in Flat Earth

Flat Earth is one of many stupid myths circulating today, and we don’t know how anyone honestly believes it. Initially, I dismissed that rhetoric as trolling lunacy, but some people actually believe it…

13. Eating the Placenta

I’ll never forget when my cat Thumper had kittens. My dad thought it was a great learning experience and a means of avoiding an actual talk about the birds and bees. I watched Thumper licking all the gunk off the kittens and asked my dad: “EW! Do we have to eat this, too?” He laughed his entire life over that one.

Still, some women eat their placentas! The most common placenta preparation is creating a capsule made by steaming, dehydrating, or processing the raw placenta. People have also been known to eat the placenta raw, cooked, in smoothies or liquid extracts.

14. Debarking Dogs

Debarking, known as Ventriculocordectomy or devocalization (devoicing or bark softening), is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia to resect varying amounts of a dog’s vocal folds or cords. It’s cruel, and most veterinarians won’t do it. Still, some do.

15. Not Washing Your Hands

Moreover — not washing hands after you go to the bathroom. What’s worse? People run water over their hands to look and sound like they washed them (George Costanza). At that point, why not use soap and wash your hands?
